Oil spillage causes havoc in Uzanu community, Edo State

Thomas Sadoh reports that the oil spillage destroyed rice farm worth millions of Naira, polluted over Ogiebho and some fish ponds.
Commenting on the situation a farmer, Mr Charles Anetekhai said he was forced to engage in premature harvest of his rice owing to the spillage.
The farmer said he borrowed money from the bank and invested in cultivating his rice farm.
He called for urgent intervention by relevant authorities to ameliorate his plight and also clean up spillages in the area.
An elderly man, Patrick Odion said the oil spillage caused serious havoc on farm land crops over and their fish pond.
Commenting on the incident, the traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, Chief Benjamin Ikahi said the means of livelihood of his people have been destroyed by oil spillages and appealed to relevant authorities to urgently intervene.
Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday adopted a resolution mandating the NNPC and other relevant agencies to effect repairs on the damage pipelines and compensate the affected communities.
